In All Things Give Thanks

February 27th, 2009

  • I have a migraine at the moment, but I am trying to turn that around into a blessing and a praise by being thankful that that is all that it is.  I know and know of so many who are struggling with much more serious, even life-threatening, health issues.
  • S was being adventurous last night – did not fall asleep until 11:30pm, was awake at 2:30am playing in the bathroom and washing her hands endlessly, and then woke up at 6am.  However, I am so thankful I have a daughter who lives life to its fullest, even at 2am enjoying the feel of the water running over her hands.  It is a cool feeling, if you think about it.
  • Reading any news and economic outlooks and job layoff reports can be discouraging and nearly hopeless.  I am so blessed to trust in a God who knows who to part oceans, make the sun stand still in the sky, and loves me so much that I have a blessed inheritance no matter what the world brings.  We will be a-ok.  How’s that for economy?
  • Doing laundry seems to often be the bane of my existence – load after load after load.  I think I am finished and it is time to start all over again.  Did I mention I hate folding clothes?  After reading my aunt and uncle’s story on their “semi-automatic” washer (shower head, physically moving the clothes from one tub to another, etc.) and “economic” dryer (air-dry) while serving in Peace Corp, I am abundantly thankful for my many wash cycles, water level settings, water softener dispenser, spin cycle, and electric dryer.  Is it ok to be thankful for electric appliances?  I don’t know, but I sure am.  It allows me to spend more time with my family.
  • Car troubles.  Well, this truly is a praise.  We are incredibly blessed to have vehicles that are owned free and clear making repairs more affordable, and one vehicle being gifted to us when gas prices sky-rocketed last year. (Hubby has a gas-guzzling truck that not so budget friendly but said truck has sentimentality attached to it.  And they say men aren’t sentimental.  They obviously didn’t ask them about their trucks.)  We have options most people do not have when faced with car troubles.  Additionally, its a blessing to pay it forward when we have the opportunity.
  • Allergies.  I’m really struggling to be thankful for allergy/asthma problems, but what I do know is that I can praise my God that He is my strength in my weakness in all things, including allergies and asthma.   (Although, I think my husband is thankful that my allergies prevent us from having cats, but let’s not go there…)

Today, what can you give thanks for that might otherwise be a nuisance or struggle?  What are some positives?  Or, what area of your life is He showing Himself perfect in power and strength in your weakness?  What are you praising Him for despite something (fill in the blank)?

Oh, I’m sorry you have a migraine. :~( I try not to read the news too often… I let my DH “report” to me instead. Praise God HE’s in charge, not me.

Our vehicles are paid for too, and running just fine at the moment. I am so thankful for that! I’m also thankful that spring is on the way. The sunshine today was such a bonus after a dusting of snow yesterday.

    Have a blessed weekend!

I love to see how people can take what the world would consider negatives, and praise God for the positives they are. Sometimes it’s a really big struggle to look at them that way, but that just glorifies God all the more.

    Thanks for sharing your positives!

@Shannon (SeeSaw Faith) It’s a huge struggle for me to see the positives so this is one way I’m trying to turn my thought process around…and I need to memorize more Scripture! :)

@e-MomMigraine is gone, thank you so much! My husband recommended just glancing at Drudge Report and not news sites I was looking at…he doesn’t look at news at all so we’d be totally out of the loop if I didn’t. It really reminds me to trust God that much more with my family when I hear so many news stories – hard to let that worry go sometimes though! Hope you had a wonderful weekend, too!
