The best part of our trip was the bed and breakfast we stayed at – Hill House Bed & Breakfast. Oh, my stars! I am seriously missing that place as I type this. The owners, Bill & Terry, were so sweet, as was their employee, Beth. The old house was really gorgeous with the most incredible wrap around porch. We were served breakfast on that porch every morning at 9am. And a truly fantastic breakfast it was, too! We left utterly spoiled. I even came home with the recipe book…I couldn’t help myself. That was GOOD food!

Another view of the porch, from the gardens.
I had stayed at a B&B as a college student on a performance trip so I cannot say that I have truly stayed and experienced a B&B before, so for all intents and purposes, this was a first for us. Chris and I can have our introverted moments so I wasn’t sure if we would enjoy this or not, but we loved every minute of it. We met and talked with so many fascinating people from as far away as Kansas (from the same town as Chris’ sister, no less!) to our very same Sunshine State. One couple was living in Florida, but were from Scotland and were there in Asheville golfing. We thoroughly enjoyed chatting with them every morning. (Aunt Macie – you would’ve loved them!) Sometime I had to think fast to translate “phrases” in my head – such as “lie-ing in” meaning “sleeping in”? (JanMary? Is it the same in Ireland?)
The location was great – in a residental area near downtown, less than a mile to walk towards the shops and restaurants there and easy drive to anything around Asheville.
And let’s not forget Bailey, the resident Golden Retriever. Yes, we ultimately picked this B&B because of Bailey, she was the deal-breaker, and a darn cute one at that.

One of the most beautiful features of this B&B are the gardens that Bill works so hard on. Words will not do them justice, just look at the pictures. All said, if you need a relaxing vacation idea – I recommend both Asheville and this B&B. We loved it. Can you tell?

Fountain to the right, Chris at the top, part of the gardens in the front.

A hammock is usually between those two trees, but it was pretty wet all week. No chance for them to put it out. Ah, well...we'll just have to go back.

More of the gardens...

And more...

These were such happy flowers, had to take a picture.

I loved this part of the gardens, this bird bath on the old stump, so pretty.

Another great view. It was so relaxing to walk around them, especially in the cool mornings. Loved it.
Yes – the same phrase used here! I am sure there were a lot of words and phrases similar to ones I would use.
It is funny that B&B is so different here. Here B&B is usually the cheaper more basic option than a hotel. Not the luxury experience it is with you. I think we regard B&B’s here a bit like you might motels in US. We don’t really have motels. Not to say there are not really nice B&Bs here – but just most are not like the one you have just experienced.
We stayed in some beautiful B&Bs in New England – before kids!!!
