He Asked

January 16th, 2009

G asked about Goldie this morning.  I was in bed and Chris was getting juice for our enormously thirsty children at 6am.  From what I understand, the conversation went like this:

G:  “See Goldie, see Goldie?”

Daddy:  “Goldie died, baby, we’re not going to see her anymore.  She went to be with Jesus in Heaven.”

G:  “Oh, ok.”

Then he quietly hugged Chris for a minute or two and that was it.

Later in the morning, after we watched a movie together – and he actually sat still in my lap for the whole movie – he started crying and I could not get him to tell me what was wrong.  I listed all the options – hurt, sad, angry, etc.  I finally asked, “Do you miss anyone?”  No response.  “Do you miss Goldie?”

G:  “No.  She go be with Jesus.”

Very matter-of-fact and certain.  He understood as best as his four-year-old mind could and he remembered what Daddy told him.  It was hard to hide my tears.

So I moved on…to an option I had already covered but would cover again considering the germs in our house this week.

Me:  “Does your belly hurt?”

G:  “Yes.”

He seems fine now, no puke-a-rama yet, and hopefully not at all.  He stopped crying a few minutes later and is playing like a champ.

Goldie

Goldie

January 1997 – January 11, 2009

105_0569Chris and Goldie, taken about 5 years ago.  More recently, she had a very white face and she always had the pinkest nose you’ve ever seen on a dog.  She loved to lay on the floor next to Chris with her head on his shoulder.

109_0931Goldie doing her favorite thing ever – chasing squirrels in the backyard.  Despite a case of hip displacia (sp?) and arthritis, she still ran like a puppy.

Our beloved family pet, Goldie, passed away last night rather unexpectedly and so quickly.  We adopted her when she was five years old and she lived until twelve years old.  Thankfully, by God’s beautiful design, our children were in bed early last night and my dinner with my mentor was cancelled at the last minute, and thus we were able to be here in her last moments.  I’ll tell you more about her and how awesome she was later…too sad right now.

This definitely qualifies as one of those “gulp” moments as we choke back tears.

Jaw-dropping

October 19th, 2008

I took this from Pied Piper…Piping?’s blog.  I think I’m still sitting here stunned about how uneducated some of the voters in this country are about the issues our presidential candidates stand for and what they are really voting for.  Wow.  Take a listen.

Living La Vida Oprah?

October 18th, 2008

I came across this intriguing article on MSNBC.com earlier today called Woman living la vida Oprah – Woman follows the gospel according to Oprah.

A yoga instructor in Chicago decided to live life for one full year according to everything Oprah recommends, albeit somewhat tongue-in-cheek.  I found it to be a rather amusing article, based on her interview with Matt Lauer on The Today Show.  Her blog and website is http://www.livingoprah.com/, and she even includes a chart of all the things she is doing, including money and time spent.

Oprah has such a fan-following and it is amazing to me that anything she says and recommends is a must-have.  Do people really do what she says?  This lady likened it to following the popular girl in high school.  I had to laugh at the analogy.  :)   True, huh?

All that said, I am still sickened and sad at Oprah’s misleading of the masses to a false religion, so far away from Christianity – away from the only way to our God, Jesus Christ.  I think this is an interesting commentary on how easy it is to build a mass following by getting popular in the material aspects of our lives, then easily leading them astray by the hand in the spiritual aspects.

Jungle Walk

October 13th, 2008

We took the kids for a walk around the neighborhood on Saturday.  Who needs to go to the zoo to see wildlife when you live in Florida?   (Chris and kids are in the background.)
