We’re enjoying spending some time with my aunt and uncle this week as they stay with us while attending the TPC.
In and around all the traveling we have been doing lately (visiting family on both sides), we are trying to hard to finish up our schoolwork before the assessment date next week.
I think we can, I think we can, I think we can…oh, wait, no we won’t.
Upon reflection, we won’t be done for a little while after that but we’re working on reviewing all our material just the same.
I am super excited about next year’s curriculum, too.
Jacques the Superpoodle and Huntley the Lovebuggy Golden Retriever have taken over our couch.
No humans allowed.
So thankful we bought leather, or a material resembling leather. Whichever.
We are going to plan a short family vacation soon – just the four of us! I can’t wait! We certainly need it.
I love texting with my kids when they use daddy’s phone. Precious.
Swim team summer season has started! Yea!!
Definitely a benefit of living in Florida. Swim teams are abundant – even year-round teams.
We’re getting close to 100 Randomness posts! Who knew that there were 100 days to be so random about things?
I read a great book about a kid who is autistic and his mom who worked with him tirelessly, and now he is a child prodigy in astrophysics or something crazy like that. Very inspiring and encouraging book.
She focused on what interested him (and other children she works with) and what he can do as opposed to what they can’t do, then used that approach to work on everything.
It’s called The Spark by Kristine Barnett.
We went to the zoo yesterday with friends who also homeschools. Taking advantage of that membership! It’s a lot of fun.
You know you are a homeschooling family when your kids pick up rocks from the ground and yell, “Look! Mom! I found a mineral! Let’s find more minerals!”
Homeschool high-five.
(That’s where you high-five yourself, clap your hands above your head.)
I’m not going to admit I was disappointed when Chris and the kids came back from the comic book store without the next issue of My Little Pony. Nope.
We finally cleaned out the garage enough that we can fit both of our cars in them now. It really leaves no room for anything else in the garage.
2-car garage my rear! More like a 1 1/2 car garage.
My kids are now Minecraft players. One gets on the iPad and one gets on my phone and they play in the same game. It’s a riot listening to them play together. ”The sheep! The sheep! The pig!” or “Should we expand the farm?” ”No, there’s not enough room.” Sometimes there are tears.
I recently witnessed a surreal conversation between my husband and my daughter about the intricate details and relationships between the characters of My Little Pony.
It was not unlike that episode of Big Bang Theory where Sheldon, Leonard, Howard and Raj return from their Star Trek/car theft adventure to overhear Amy, Penny, and Bernadette arguing about Thor’s Hammer and other comic book theories. They were certain they had crossed over into an alternate dimension.
I’m now wondering when I crossed over into this one. Who is Princess Luna again? And Nightmare Moon? Are they one and the same pony? What??
I mean, who can even get into their car when a two-car garage is that small?? And we don’t own large cars! It’s a mystery. Even just 12 more inches would’ve been great.
First world problems, I know. Really, who parks their cars in the house anyways? Weirdos.
G is LOVING his weighted blanket. He wants it when he does his school work. He wants to take it when we travel this summer. I’m so thankful we bought it. Not cheap, but worth it.
I have to admit, I really like it, too. I used it for a nap yesterday. It is oh so very comfy. Each little pocket of fluff and weighted beads just settle all the way around you. It really does feel like a hug all over.
Time for church! Yippee!! Love our church family. They rock. So does God. He’s so good to us.
We’ve started buying the kids some comics. My Little Pony is actually pretty funny.
I’m not sure why or how I know that. It’s a mystery.
Did you know adults, including many grown men, like My Little Pony? Those male fans are called “bronies.” I do not lie!
Then in a surreal moment, my mom, aka “Nana”, had a longish conversation with G about their shared love of comics. All these strange names of comic book heroes came tumbling from my momma’s mouth. I mean, who knew?
I think I live in the twilight zone. I think I’ll stay.
It’s time for that once-in-a-blue-moon update again. You know, the one where I tell you I’ll try to be more diligent about updating but then I never do.
It’s the thought that counts, right? :D
We are sliding downhill fast towards the end of second grade for G. He’s a superstar! We’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel in all of our curriculum books and our CC group will be finished before Resurrection Sunday (aka Easter).
Speaking of G…someBODY has a birthday in eight days!! Yes, oh yes, the little man will be eight years old.
And half of our city knows already. He announces how many days left to everyone within hearing distance everywhere we go.
S is doing fantastically in Kindergarten. Lots of drama, lots of tears, lots of cheers, lots of I’ll-take-out-the-doorknob-because-you-put-mustard-on-my-sandwich moments (true story). She loves art, but hates reading.
She is six going on 16, 26, and 36 all at the same time.
We have a new family member. Three more actually. Two betta fish and one more dog. Jacques is my grandma’s poodle who came to live with us after she danced her way into Heaven this past November. He is an incredible dog and we love him so much. S loves him too much.
So very much to update you all on! I don’t even know where to begin…I do have more time on my hands now (a whole blog post in and of itself) so I hope to be posting more frequently!
